Rowan University
“Living Theatre” in London (May/June 2009)
Dr. Elisabeth Hostetter of the Department of Theatre and Dance will lead
a general education summer study course in London. The 3-credit course is
designed to help students develop a critical appreciation of performed drama.
Boasting over 200 theatres, London is a perfect backdrop for developing
such an appreciation. The cost of this all-inclusive program includes tuition,
transportation, accommodation, internet access, health insurance, group
dinners, and cultural excursions to Stratford-Upon-Avon, the Globe Theatre,
and the National Theatre. The group departs May 17 and returns June 6 at

“Sustainable Design in Engineering” in London (May/June
2009)
Dr. Peter Jansson of the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering
will lead this 3 credit multidisciplinary course. The cost of $3,700 plus
airfare includes tuition, student accommodation, insurance, group dinners,
internet access, and cultural excursions and to green buildings and installations
in and around London, the city of Cambridge, Kentish Flats Wind Farm, Canterbury
Pundsbury Sustainable Community, and Stonehenge. This course is designed
to give engineering students a better understanding of the role of the engineer
in sustainable design, especially within a global context. The group departs

“Geography of Europe” (May/June 2009)
Students interested in traveling to and studying in France, Switzerland,
Germany, Luxembourg, and Belgium, and earning 3 Rowan credits are encouraged
to contact Dr. Denyse Lemaire of the Department of Geography and Anthropology.
This group will depart Philadelphia on May 20 and return June 3. The number
of students will be limited to 20. The $3,500 price is all-inclusive (airline
ticket, all transportation, activities, visits, tips, hotels, meals, drinks,
and travel insurance). Credits must be paid for separately. For information

“Australia, Fiji, and New Zealand” (July/August 2009)
Participants are encouraged to contact Dr. Denyse Lemaire of the Department
of Geography and Anthropology. The cost of this all-inclusive trip is $5,450
and includes 24 days, air and ground transportation, and all activities,
meals, hotels, and accommodations. The one-credit course “Independent Study
in Geography” must be paid for separately. The prospective departure date
is July 29 and the return is August 23. The destinations include two days
in Fiji, New Zealand, Sydney (New South Wales), Northern Queensland (the
Great Barrier Reef), and 9 days in the Northern Territory. A detailed itinerary

The College of New Jersey
Greece (May 22 - June 10, 2009)
This 3-week experience includes visits to the major classical sites of Athens,
Olympia, Delphi, and Epidauros, as well as Knossos and other Bronze Age
sites in Crete. The course examines various artistic media and intellectual
traditions, especially literature, philosophy, architecture, and decorative
sculptural programs, in their concrete physical context, with attention
to their religious and cultural functions as well as their social, political,
historical, and/or artistic value. The study of ancient texts, ideas, and
material culture takes place on site and in the context of the atmosphere
of Greece – the food, the climate, the contours of the landscape, the people,
the language, the light, and the rhythm of life. Cost and Contact information

Argentina (May 29 - June 28, 2009)
This four-week intensive program
will focus on Digital Photography and, in addition to rigorous academic
coursework, the students will experience many of the cultural wonders of
Buenos Aires, Argentina, including libraries, museums and art galleries.
Excursions to El Tigre and Escobar will provide students with a glimpse
of life on the river and the traditional Argentine gaucho (cowboy) respectively.
Students will live in conveniently located residencias similar to boarding
houses/dorms, located within 10 minutes of the University. This course is
inspired by the culture of Buenos Aires and the writing of the prominent
author Jorge Luis Borges, and thus will benefit greatly from the program's
location in Argentina. The class will focus on how digital photography can
be used as immediate response to place and a new culture. The program will

Paris, France (June 21 - July 11, 2009)
Interested in spending three weeks in Paris studying how this magnificent
city came into its own as an international center for avant-garde art, architecture,
and literature? Sign up for “Paris Before the Great War”. The course will
take place in Paris and use the city as the classroom. We will look at the
magnificent buildings and bridges, and visit the actual paintings and sculptures
that madeParis in the years 1890 to 1914. We also will read the texts and
explore the haunts and habitats of writers and artists who escaped the provincialism
of their native milieus to experience the freedom and cosmopolitanism of
this artistic Mecca. “Paris Before the Great War” is open to any major and

Frankfurt. Germany (July 3 - July 17, 2009)
Sign up for the “Collaborative
Art Experience” in Frankfurt, Germany! This unique art experience, lead
by Professor Elizabeth Mackie and co-taught by Jochan Fisher (Chair of art
at Frankfurt Johann Wolfgang Goethe University) is an opportunity for American
students to participate in a collaborative art experience working and living
with German art students. Beginning with meeting at TCNJ and concluding
with a 2-week program at Frankfurt Johann Wolfgang Goethe University, students
will produce projects for an exhibition at the Universities Art Gallery.
Included are field trips to art and culture points of interest in and around
the city and a boat trip to see castles and vineyards on the romantic Rhine

Madrid, Spain (July 3 - August 7, 2009)
Study in Madrid, one of the world's most cosmopolitan, vibrant cities! Learn
about Spanish art, architecture, and culture in guided visits around Madrid
and to surrounding historic sites. Visit some of the most historic and beautiful
cities in the world, such as Segovia, Toledo, and Avila, cities designed
World Heritage Sites by the UNESCO. As well, live in Casa de Brasil, an
international dormitory on the Universidad Complutense de Madrid campus,
where you can meet Spanish students and other international students. The
program includes numerous cultural events at no additional cost to participants.
On Wednesdays, there will be field trips to museums and historical monuments
in the city of Madrid, such as El Prado, El Palacio de Oriente, El Museo
de la Reina Sofía, and Las Cortes. Weekends are free for your own travel

Prague, Czech Republic (July 17 - August 8, 2009)
Sign up to study “Book Arts” in Prague, Czech Republic! This 3-week (4 credits)
program, open to students from all disciplines, is designed to develop students'
individual skills and interests in the field of Artists Books. This course,
lead by Professor Elizabeth Mackie, includes an investigation of traditional
and modern bookbinding in the Czech Republic and Europe and hands on book
design and production. The city's parks and public spaces will provide opportunities
for creative writing, drawing, painting, photography and historical and
cultural investigations. Excursions include Ceske Svycarsko (Czech Switzerland)
National Park (beautiful scenery for hiking and seeing snow-capped mountains),
Terezin (used as a concentration camp for Jews, scholars, and children)
and 2-nights in Vienna, Austria (explore the city, tour the world famous
Opera and watch a performance at a Viennese theater). Cost and Contact information

William Paterson University
Study Abroad in the Netherlands (June 28 – July 11, 2009)
Earn 2 to 6 credits in Special Education while visiting Dutch schools. The
program cost of $1081 includes housing, most meals, local transportation
(by bicycle) and school visits. Additional costs include tuition, airfare,
and a weekend excursion ($600) around the Netherlands. For more information
